Register

Padauk, walnut, and hard maple end grain composed in three horizontal bands. The walnut runs across the middle as a continuous horizon, separating checkerboard fields of padauk and maple above and below. The name comes from printing — register is the term for how multiple color plates align to produce a single image. Here, three species function as three plates, each holding its own position across the full composition. Unlike most boards in the catalog, the pre-finish and post-finish states read nearly identically. The contrast was already there. The finish just confirmed it.
